50 Game Milestones Golden Square Football Club

 Nathan Bell.

Nathan joined the Bulldogs in 2009 from the Shepparton Swans in the strong Goulburn Valley League.Previously, he had a stint with Glenelg in the SANFL, playing about 30 seniors & 20 reserve games. After a slow start to the BFNL season, taking a while to adjust to a new team and some injury concerns,Nathan eventually found form & consistency and achieved  a runner-up finish in the Best & Fairest in that year.He was awarded the VCFL medal in the 2009 Grand Final win over South Bendigo. Nathan is routinely named in the Best Player lists for Golden Squareand is also a regular selection in BFNL & VCFL interleague teams. His aggression, defensive smarts and precision disposal set up numerous rebounding attacks allowing lively midfielders Josh Baird, Shaun Young, Mark Lloyd, Adam Baird and big James Bristow to sweep the ball into attack. He sports Guernsey # 4 for the Golden Square Bulldogs

 Shaun Young

Shaun Young achieved every footballer’s dream when he played in the Bendigo Football League grand final last year.Since first gaining senior selection in the 2009 season, Shaun has not looked back and has become a key player close to goal, or in the midfield. His senior goal-kicking tally now stands at over 70, with a personal best of 7 against Strathfieldsaye in Round 18 last year. He is committed to training and improving his game, focusing on increasing fitness, skills and defensive play.“Defensive pressure is really important. Our forwards work on keeping pressure on the opposition, and the midfielders and onballers work really hard.”A third-year apprentice with D.L.O. Plumbing, Shaun and older brother, Dale, play key roles for the Bulldogs. He first played senior football with the Square in 2005 when he was with the Bendigo Pioneers in the TAC Cup under-18s competition and is also a talented first XI batsman for Huntly-North Bendigo Cricket Club. Shaun proudly wears Guernsey # 13 for the Golden Square Bulldogs.

 Josh Baird

Josh Baird has once again enjoyed a consistent season for the ‘Square. As far as courage goes, Josh mirrors Geelong’s Joel Selwood, never being afraid to put his head over the ball. Josh is very versatile and can play wing, forward or across half-back where he sets up play for the team. One of the first players picked for the team each week, Josh unluckily missed being part of the ’09 Premiership team due to a severe injury sustained late in the season. A grueling pre-season fitness regime paid off last year which saw him become a key member of the 2010 Premiership team. Josh wears Guernsey # 12 for the Bulldogs.

 David McMeekin

David “Harry” McMeekin joined the Bulldogs in 2009 from
Geelong Football League club Newtown-Chilwell, where he won the best and fairest in 2008. In 2007 David tied for runner up in the B & F whilst playing for A Grade Amateur club St Bernard’s under Coach Simon Maddern, & in 2004 he came 3rd. in the League count playing for La Trobe in VAFA. A mobile ruckman,”Harry” controls the ruck all day, giving our talented midfielders first use of the ball on many occasions. He has been a member of our past 2 premiership teams and received the Nalder Medal as best-on-ground in the 2009 grand final. He spent all 114 minutes on the ground, destroying his South Bendigo opponents 21-8 in the centre clearances. David is a Property sales executive with The Weekly Times and wears jumper # 27 in the Bulldog team.
